Arms of Orion - You Started This
(cover scan coming soon) You Started This started something but before that they had this big lineup change where Arms of Orion, Dead Silence, and Riding Bikes effectively rotated. It was the most sports transaction-like thing I’ve seen in any music scene to date for sure. After Arms of Orion switched up, they won this battle of the bands Y100 put on and got a spot on Lollapalooza’s local stage. Looks Like Rain started getting a bit of airplay, and it seemed a little glorious, like something was happening.
In that context, the EP seems like a Looks Like Rain CD single with two b-sides nowadays, especially because they included the same version of it at the end of the next year’s This Is It EP, which was a huge step up in any case. That inclusion almost renders You Started This as an inessential entry in Arms of Orion’s four disc catalog, but the title track stands up, albeit in a way that probably wouldn’t have fit in with Y100 or This Is It. For one it was the last sighting of guitarist Mark Young’s screamed backing vocals, but Looks Like Rain was sort of a dividing line in their career and the title track seems more on the side of the first demo. At the merch table, You Started This remained on hand until the D-town West ’07 when I bought the last copy. |
